About Nick Butcher

About Me

I get a lot of satisfaction in helping make even the smallest positive difference in people’s lives. When a client tells me that they feel so much better than they did when they started working with me it’s very rewarding.

I’ve been in the mental health field since 1992. I’ve worked in a variety of mental health settings such as community mental health centers, hospitals and emergency rooms, substance abuse treatment programs, and private practices.

Outside my work, I enjoy photography and playing guitar. I love spending time with family and playing with my 105 lb black lab, Titan.

My Methodology

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy strategies which emphasize a collaborative partnership between client and therapist to identify, understand and overcome a client’s challenges. My process will focus on the “here and now” approach targeting distressing symptoms rather than root causes or past problems. I want to meet you where you are in your process and build a road map from there.

Education

  • Bachelors in Psychology from Southwest Missouri State University
  • Masters in Counseling from Webster University

My Approach to Care

An important aspect of my process is the assessment of symptoms so a diagnosis can be formed, appropriate referrals made when needed, goals identified etc. I make frequent use of a questioning style referred to as guided discovery to identify your viewpoint and beliefs. We will also use assessments and homework so that you have continual practice and progress outside our sessions. I want to help make sure you can use the skills taught in counseling even after treatment is completed.

Licenses

  • Licensed Professional Counselor, Missouri
  • Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Kansas
  • Licensed Telehealth Provider, Florida
